I’m not even outraged by this.
This is the sort of thing that I have come to expect from these people.
“MONTGOMERY, Ala. – An “anti racist action group” is claiming responsibility and holding for ransom a stone chair, dedicated to Jefferson Davis, stolen from a cemetery in Selma, Alabama, last month.
According to an email from the group, “White Lies Matter,” the chair was taken from the cemetery about a month ago. Selma police Chief Kenta Fulford confirmed his department received a report of the chair being stolen.
Instead of cash, however, the group has asked the United Daughters of the Confederacy to hang a banner outside their headquarters in Virginia for 24 hours, beginning April 9, with a quote from Assata Shakur. April 9 is the 156th anniversary of Robert E. Lee’s surrender in Appomattox, Virginia.
“The rulers of this country have always considered their property more important than our lives,” says the banner that the group mailed to the UDC. …”
As an “extremist,” I would never do something like this.
I can’t imagine vandalizing someone’s grave or stealing things out of a cemetery much less demanding a ransom for its return. This is just a completely alien mentality to the way that I was raised.
In 2021, the real issues in Selma are crime, poverty, underdevelopment and blight. Go take a look for yourself. Zimbabwe on de Alabamy has become an abandoned ghost town. The only reason that anyone ever goes to Selma is to walk over that stupid bridge or to pull a stunt like this for publicity. Slavery hasn’t existed in over 150 years in Selma and Dallas County. Jim Crow ended over 50 years ago. Hanging a banner in Richmond in honor of Assata Shakur isn’t going to do a damn thing for Selma.
